“No Hope for Gomez!” Birthday Party. Win kindles, iPods, and get free books!

“It’s the age-old tale:
     Boy meets girl.
     Boy stalks girl.
     Girl already has a stalker.
     Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.”

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been a year since I handed in the final proofs for my weird little book ‘No Hope for Gomez!’ To celebrate this, and the fact that it just became a finalist in 2010′s Best Book Awards, I decided to throw an international party. As I’ve had a debilitating fear of throwing parties and no-one showing up since early childhood, I’d be more than delighted if you’d come!

Of course, with every cool, international party comes a gift bag. Here’s just some of the stuff attendants will get:

  • Exclusive short story collection
  • No Hope for Gomez: The Lost Chapters
  • Making of Gomez: behind the scenes eBook
  • Signed hi-res poster + bookplate

(These are all exclusive items and will not be available again)

Additionally, several lucky attendants will win a Kindle or an iPod!

Oh yeah, you can bring as many friends as you like, just don’t bring your crazy uncle who drinks too much and then tries to get me to go to the attic with him to see something wonderful. I’ve fallen for that before and I don’t mind telling you, I came away very disappointed!

Find out how to attend HERE.

I hope everyone will go check out the No Hope for Gomez blog and purchase Graham’s book so that they can be entered in the great giveaway!

This is a great theme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.

This week I didn’t get much because I’m trying to cut back for the holidays, plus my TBR pile is huge!

Bought:

~The Dragon Heir
This one was on sale at Borders, it was $4 for the hardcover version. I own the first book in this series, The Warrior Heir, even though I have not yet read it I figured I couldn’t go wrong for 4 dollars. So I have put the second book, The Wizard Heir on my Christmas wish list.

~The Marbury Lens
The day after I got The Dragon Heir I got a 50% off coupon from Borders so I went back and I didn’t know what to get but then I picked up this one to read the inside cover. I have heard good things about it and I randomly opened the book to read a few pages and I liked what I read so I got this 60% (50% plus 10% with my membership) off which is a great deal.

I normally don’t read very many sci-fi or fantasy books but these caught my eye so I will probably venture away from my romance books soon. :)

The First Love Cookie Club

Title: The First Love Cookie Club

Author: Lori Wilde
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers

Publication Date: October 2010
Classification: Adult Romance Book
Summary from Barnes and Noble:
“On Christmas Eve, if you sleep with kismet cookies under your pillow and dream of your one true love, he will be your destiny.”
The townsfolk of Twilight, Texas, believe the legend, but not Sarah Collier—not since she was a pudgy teenager, running down the church aisle on Christmas Day in a jingle bell sweater and reindeer antlers, trying to stop Travis Walker from marrying someone else. She may be grown-up, slimmed-down, bestselling children’s book author “Sadie Cool”now, but Sarah will never forget that day. And she’ll never fall foolishly in love again!

But when a letter from a sick fan brings Sarah back to Twilight, she’s shocked to discover that Travis is the little girl’s father—unattached and hotter than ever. His smile still makes her melt, but Sarah knows that ship has sailed. Travis, however, might have different ideas.

My Thoughts:
First off I really enjoy this contemporary series because I always feel that we learn about so many great main characters as well as the side stories with the background characters that live in the town of Twilight. When you read any of the books in this great series you feel like you are actually living in Twilight, Texas with them and that you are a part of their families. I feel when a book or a series can suck you into the story line that well then it is a keeper.

This story had a holiday feel to it because our leading lady, Sarah returns to Twilight for the holiday season to do a book tour and make one little girl’s Christmas wish come true. Little does Sarah or Sadie Cool know that this little girl she is going to visit is the daughter of her long time crush Travis. Sarah once barged in on Travis’ wedding to another woman and she ran away, eventually to New York to become a famous author.

The reunion with not only Travis but with the town she fell in love with as a little girl gives Sarah a fresh take on life again. The romance between the couple is sweet and cute which is how I always think of these books. The book is not as steamy as some others out there but it works for this cute series. I would say if you are looking for a series where you really connect with the characters that has no paranomal elements in it then this is the series for you.

Overall I give this book 4.5 stars and the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because I felt the ending was a bit abrupt. The ending left some loose ends in the story lines of the secondary characters that I hope the next book in the series will wrap up.

Previous books in this series:

I need opinions please!

I know that there are several blogs that do ARC Tours where people who have had a blog for a year or more can sign up to try to be on the mailing list for the ARC Tour. I’m a newish blogger so I don’t get ARCs for you ladies and gentlemen to read but I have been thinking about a new book tour in which I will offer up a new copy of a book that came out that month to circulate between 5 people. These 5 people do not have to already have a blog that has been running for a year but I would ask that you review the book on your blog, on goodreads or where ever else you post reviews for people to read. For example I could purchase Across the Universe which comes out in Jan and set up a mailing list for 5 people to read the book. These 5 people would have to pay the shipping to send it to the next person though.

Does anyone think this is a good idea? Would any of you be interested in being part of a new release book tour?
Please help me out, I would appreciate it.

Small Rant

So I’m going to make a small rant here because I’m a little upset.
My old Nook broke last night as I was trying to do a software update and now Barnes and Noble wants me to send it in so they can send me a “new” one. Yeah it will not really be a new one but they claim it will work even better than my older model since they have fixed the “bugs”. I asked the rep if I could just get the new NookColor instead and he told me they will not do that for me. Something always has to break after having it for less than a year, at least it is still covered.

So my question to you is one that has been a debate for quite some time now, do you like paper books or ebooks better?
