My Thoughts:

I’m going to be honest and say it was pretty weird to see a novel turned into a graphic novel. I have read manga and graphic novels before but they were never based off of a book that was a full length novel so this was a new experience for me, and I’m not sure yet if it was a good one or not yet.

Honestly, the art was a little bit weird, I guess after seeing the beautiful art in the manga series that I read I was just expecting a little more. The art grew on me with time but it just seemed really weird at first and some of the art has pictures of the cars just basically pasted into the book, they are not drawn images, it was like a collection of clip art at some points.

Once I was able to move past that, I was able to enjoy the novel for what it was. It was basically a version of Twilight on fast forward. Most of the popular catch phrases from the novel, that were also in the movie, were the characters quotes in the graphic novel. I would say it was a quick way to refresh yourself on what exactly happened in Twilight. Think of this graphic novel as a cliffnotes version of Twilight.

Overall, I was not very impressed with this graphic novel. I did enjoy seeing concept art and seeing how it differs from how I picture the characters and how the movies portray them. I did enjoy remembering my favorite parts of the first half of Twilight. I would say the best part of this graphic novel were the quotes to make me remember why I loved Twilight. Plus there are a few areas where the images go from black and white to having color and that is really when the novel stands out. I wish that more pages would have been in color because I feel that the color made this graphic novel feel special just like Twilight should be. Of course this only covers the first half of Twilight so I am interested in reading the second volume and seeing if I have more of an appreciate for it by then. Really this volume just made me want to go back and read Twilight because the novel is better in the end.

This graphic novel only gets 3.5 hearts from me, I have hopes for the second volume.

  1. Candace says:

I got this one and tried to read it but I just couldn’t. I thought it was pretty on my shelf but I ended up trading it for credit at Powells so I could get books I really wanted to read. I don’t think graphic novels are my thing. Probably not manga either, but I haven’t tried them yet so I probably shouldn’t assume.

  2. I totally see what you mean !! I read the Vampire Academy graphic novel last month and it was very weird !VA is my favourite series and seeing the characters portrayed in a way I didn’t imagine them to be .. well I didn’t like it !
