Goodreads Summary:
Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared–the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in his own blood–but she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night held.

The memories her family has tried to bury resurface when Daniel returns, three years later, and enrolls in Grace and Jude’s high school. Despite promising Jude she’ll stay away, Grace cannot deny her attraction to Daniel’s shocking artistic abilities, his way of getting her to look at the world from new angles, and the strange, hungry glint in his eyes.

The closer Grace gets to Daniel, the more she jeopardizes her life, as her actions stir resentment in Jude and drive him to embrace the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind the boy’s dark secret…and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it–her soul.

My Thoughts

The Dark Divine had been sitting on my shelf for quite a while. I’ve been trying to read the books I already own so I finally grabbed this one. I was eager to finally make the time to read it but sadly I decided not to finish it. I typically do not write a review if I did not finish the book but I decided why not? I couldn’t finish it but maybe someone else would like to give it a chance or someone else has already read it. In that case let me know what you thought about the book in the comments.

I was excited to dig into all the secrets i expected this book to have but unfortunately did get far enough to figure out what Grace’s family was hiding. Typically I would want to get to the bottom of what is going on but other things could not hold my attention enough to keep moving on. I felt like the story was progressing too slow for me. I liked the flash backs and how the fact that it was trying to create a curiosity to get to know the characters and what was going on. I could not seem to find a connection with any characters though. There was not anything specific that i disliked but I just felt indifferent to what was going on. I did not feel invested in the story and after 100+ pages  decided maybe it just was not for me.

  1. I’ve been exploring for a little bit for any high-quality articles or blog posts
on this kind of space . Exploring in Yahoo I eventually stumbled upon this web site.
Reading this info So i’m happy to convey that I have a very good uncanny
feeling I discovered exactly what I needed.
I so much surely will make certain to don?t overlook this site and give it a look regularly.

  2. I didn’t like this either. I actually finished it, so I can tell you–you did not miss a thing. Not one.

    • Good to know. I’ve seen some reviews from people that didn’t like the slow beginning but then loved it by the end so I was trying to push on but decided the call of other books needing to be read was too strong lol

  3. I keep telling myself that I need to read the books I already own rather than getting new ones but I can never seem to do it haha. So kudos to you! Sorry you weren’t able to connect with this story at all, sounds really strange and mysterious from the blurb.
